About Buro Landschap
We are a landscape and spatial design studio based in Hasselt, Belgium. Driven by a strong belief in storytelling through nature and balance. BuroLandschap creates outdoor spaces and interventions in the landscape that enhance their surroundings and experience, gently opening up opportunities for people and nature to meet again.
Designing is also a form of play for us. Not in a superficial way, but as an open attitude that allows room for wonder. Ideas often emerge while sketching, exploring, in motion, without a rigid framework. This keeps the process light and lively, yet thoughtful. We love designs that stir something in the people who experience them. A smile, an unexpected detour, a flutter in the stomach perhaps. We hope our projects briefly awaken the child in each of us — that small moment of sincere wonder, or a shiver you cannot quite explain.
We see beauty in the essential. Not in what demands attention, but in what quietly carries meaning. During the design process, which can be unexpectedly intense, this beauty appears in refined lines, rhythm and detail. We are perfectionists when it comes to the small things. Every project tells a story that must be just right. And we continue to protect that story on site, from the exact placement of each plant to the final bolt of a structure. For us, refined beauty is not a luxury, but something completely natural.
We design with both feet on the ground. With respect for the landscape and a deep belief in simplicity and honesty. What we create does not need to shout. It needs to feel right, to belong, to breathe. We see it as our mission to help people reconnect with nature. That bond is fundamental but fragile. Our designs aim to restore that relationship. Not by impressing, but by touching something deeper.
At BuroLandschap, we believe that landscapes are more than just space. They move us, connect us, and bring moments of stillness or motion. Our mission is to design landscapes that reconnect people with nature. Not as a backdrop, but as something alive and deeply felt.
We start from simplicity and listen to what a place truly needs. With attention to detail, a sense of refinement, and room for playfulness, we give meaning to the outdoors. Every project tells a story, quietly woven into the design and tangible on site.
We aim to evoke wonder. A smile, perhaps a shiver. But above all, we want people to feel at home in the landscape again. As it was always meant to be.
We believe that landscapes play a vital role in how we live, feel and connect. In a world where the distance from nature keeps growing, we aim to create places that bring back a sense of closeness. Closeness to the earth, to stillness, to wonder.
Landscape architecture can be more than shaping space. It can help people reconnect with their surroundings. That is why we want to keep building landscapes that are sustainable, gentle in impact and rich in meaning. Spaces that leave a lasting impression, without needing to impose themselves.
Our dream? A world in which people feel part of the landscape once again. And where the beauty of simplicity is given room to breathe.
At BuroLandschap, we work with a strong and dedicated team where each member’s expertise has its place. Landscape architects, architectural engineers, architects with a background in landscape development, a landscape specialist, a nature expert and a botanist form a complementary group that carries each project both conceptually and technically.
We design public spaces, historical parks, gardens, landscape structures, roads and landmark projects with attention to spatial quality, detail and experience. What defines us is our in-depth knowledge of plants. From native perennials and historical plantings to kitchen gardens and ecological management — greenery is never an afterthought, but a starting point in our design approach.
Within the team, everyone carries their own responsibility. We collaborate with focus, mutual trust and a shared ambition: to create strong landscapes that are sustainable and meaningful.
BuroLandschap has grown from a family background in which working in and with nature has always played a central role. From a young age, there was a strong connection to the outdoors, which eventually led to studies in landscape architecture and the founding of the firm.
After graduating, we spent fifteen years combining design and execution. These years as landscape architect and contractor provided solid practical experience and deep insight into the realisation of landscape projects. We worked on sites such as Alden Biesen, the Castle of Hex, the Commandery of Gruitrode, Bokrijk and the Abbey of Herkenrode — well-known domains that required careful interventions in historically and ecologically valuable contexts. In addition, we developed projects on beautiful private estates and designed remarkable gardens with a strong focus on detail and planting.
Around twenty years ago, we began working on public spaces. Since then, the demand has increased significantly, and public space has become an important pillar of our practice. We have realised projects throughout Flanders, across a wide range of scales and contexts.
We were also involved in the landscape integration of notable projects such as Cycling through the Trees, Cycling through the Water and Cycling through the Mine Terrils. These projects confirmed our role in shaping places where nature and experience come together.
Today, BuroLandschap is a mature office with a multidisciplinary team. We combine design expertise with technical know-how and have built up extensive experience in the realisation of green projects in both public and private space, from historical heritage to contemporary landmarks.
